Rhinebeck – Nelson S. Kranker, 74, passed away at his home on Saturday, February 26, 2022.
Born on February 24, 1948, in Orlando, FL, he was the son of Julius and Gladys Kranker of Beacon, NY.
He honorably served in the US Army from 1968 – 1970. He was stationed in Italy as a Radio Teletype Operator on a nuclear base. His medals included Good Conduct, National Defense, and Expert Rifle Marksman.
On April 5, 1980, he married Rose Greene in a Methodist Church in Maryland and they remained married for 42 years. Rose continues to live in the family home in Rhinebeck.
Nelson was the Director of Dutchess County Consumer Affairs for 35 years and a Treasurer/member of the Southeastern Weights & Measures Association for 20 years.
In addition to being a wonderful husband to his wife, he was an active family man, who was an incredibly loving and selfless provider to his three children Andrea, Travis, and Nova.
Nelson was an avid skier, enjoying the peaks in Killington, VT in the winter. In the summers, he would take his family boating from Canada to Maryland, amongst many other destinations.
He generously volunteered for March of Dimes, United Way, and Big Brother Big Sisters of America. In addition, he was active in youth coaching for the Rhinebeck soccer, baseball and softball teams.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
