Patricia Gifford

Patricia Catherine (Pat) Gifford, age 83, passed away peacefully at her home in the mid-morning hours of August 23, 2023.

She was born on October 30, 1939, in East Concord, NH to Vearlan and Helen (Noga) Knowlton.

Patricia was a 1957 graduate of Concord High School and a 1960 graduate of the New Hampshire State Hospital School of Nursing.

On November 12, 1960, in Concord, NH, Patricia married William J. Gifford, also of Concord, NH. They moved to New York in 1961 where Patricia began working part-time as a nurse at various local nursing homes and eventually retiring in 2005 after a 25-year career as an occupational nurse (RN, COHN-S/CM) at IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY. Patricia was also a volunteer member for many years with the Staatsburg Rescue Squad.

In 2017, Patricia and her sisters, Barbara, and Genevieve, worked together to transition ownership of their 85-acre family farm property to the city of Concord to create the Knowlton Forest Trails public access recreation area off Hot Hole Pond Road in Concord, NH.

Patricia is survived by her four children, Catherine Keim and her husband, Terry, of VT, David J. Gifford and his wife, Mathilda, of Germantown, NY, Russell V. Gifford of Plano, Texas, and William E. Gifford of NH; her sisters, Barbara Hardy of East Brunswick, NJ, and Genevieve (Jeannie) Drew of Concord, NH; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia is predeceased by her husband, William J. Gifford; her brother, Vern E. Knowlton; brothers-in-law, Art Hardy and Edmund Gifford; nephew, Jimmy Stillman and niece, Danni Ayer.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and care givers, with special thanks to her primary care assistant, Maria Velez.

Visitation is Thursday, August 31, from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main Street, Concord, NH. A graveside service and burial will follow in the Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord.
