Raymond A. Joyce, Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021, at his home in Rhinebeck. Ray was a former resident of Clinton Corners and Hyde Park.
Born December 12, 1930 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of Raymond A. Joyce, Sr. and Dorothy (Dusenbury) Joyce.
Ray was employed at IBM for 37 years until his retirement in 1991. He had previously worked at Western Printing.
He served in the US Navy from 1952 – 1955 and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe). He was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Post #429 and served as Commander from July 2015 to June 2016. He was also a member of the Clinton Alliance Church, and a 50-year Master Mason and member of Triune-Obed Lodge No. 782.
Ray taught senior exercise classes for the Office of the Aging and was honored with the “Volunteer Service Award” in 2005. He also organized many blood drives through the Clinton Alliance Church.
Ray is survived by his wife Barbara (Hodges) Joyce whom he married August 16, 1981 in Clinton, NY.
In addition, Ray is survived by his children; Kevin (Sue) Joyce, Debra (Jamie) Mears, Lorraine Joyce, Kathleen (Jerry) Cote and Sharon (Robert) Desso; step-children, Richard Johnson II (Victoria) and Colleen Dorval; grandchildren, Jessica Albano, Jennifer Harris, Jason Gonzalez, Randy Gonzalez, Teresa Fitzgerald, Michael Gonzalez II, Matthew Gonzalez, Kyle Desso, Melissa Cote, Brian Cote, Olivia Joyce, Rachael Baur, Hannah Dubose, Nadine Johnson, Kayla Plut, Heather Dorval, Heidi Dorval, Richard Dorval, Ryan Dorval; and sixteen great grandchildren.
Ray is also survived by his dear sister, Joan Alice Oetjen and her husband August, his nephew Duane Oetjen and his wife Rebecca, niece Penny Simmons and her husband Phil and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris (Beatty Joyce) Scribner in 2001; parents, Raymond A. Joyce, Sr., and Dorothy (Dusenbury) Joyce; grandparents, John H. and Ruby (Loucks) Joyce, and Edwin K. and Katherine (Palmer) Dusenbury; a beloved niece Kristine Oetjen, a nephew Trevor Sonnenberg; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are Wednesday, August 18th, 12:00 to 2:00 and 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Members of Montgomery Post #429 will conduct services at 5:45 PM. The memorial service will be held Thursday, August 19th, 11:00 AM, at the Clinton Alliance Church, 1192 Centre Rd., Rhinebeck (Schultzville), NY.
