Rhonda (Pacanowski) Fletcher

November 2, 1957 ~ August 7, 2022 (age 64)

Obituary

Rhonda Denise Pacanowski, 64, passed away on August 7, 2022, in Rhinebeck, NY.

Rhonda was born November 2, 1957 in Yuma, Arizona to Ronald and Joyce Test Pacanowski. Not long after her birth, she and her family moved to Livermore, California where Rhonda spent the remainder of her childhood years, along with her brothers Craig and Brad.

Rhonda’s love for serving and helping others began at a young age, as she enjoyed volunteering her time as a candy striper at the local hospital while she was in high school. Rhonda graduated from Livermore High School in the spring of 1976 and went on to attend two years of college at Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.

In Lubbock, she met Richard Royce Fletcher, and in August of 1979, they married. Rhonda and Rick built a life together that took them throughout West Texas: Lubbock, Abilene, and eventually Midland, TX where they resided for over 30 years. They were active in their church congregations and found great joy in community wherever they landed. While in Lubbock, Rhonda taught at Sunshine Preschool at Broadway Church of Christ where she lovingly cared for babies and young children. Together, they had three daughters - Chelsie, Christin, and Catherine. In Midland, Rhonda was active in her daughters’ lives and activities as they grew up, volunteering as homeroom mom, serving on the school PTA, and helping lead Girl Scout groups.

In her early years, Rhonda had a love for sewing and decorating. Both these gifts made her home feel safe, warm, and inviting. Rhonda also loved reading Mary Higgins Clark books in her spare time and rarely missed an episode of All My Children. Rhonda was a thoughtful gift-giver and an excellent cook. All three of her girls have fond memories of bountiful Thanksgiving meals and, at times, over-the-top Christmas morning celebrations. People felt loved and cared for when they were around her. Rhonda had many close friendships during her time in Midland and enjoyed being a part of Ladies Bible classes, Bunco groups, and care groups at church.

Rhonda enjoyed talking about her childhood and sharing stories of her father and family, many of whom still reside in the Bay Area of California. After all those years in Texas, she always considered herself a Californian at heart.

In her later years, Rhonda was diagnosed with and lived with Huntington’s Disease. This disease changed many things in her life, including her ability to engage in the once life-giving activities she enjoyed. Her abilities may have changed, but her love and devotion to her family and friends never did.

She is survived by: brother Craig Pacanowski (late wife Susan) of Wichita Falls, Texas; brother Brad Rawlings (wife Laura) of Shingle Springs, California; daughter Chelsie Nichole Sargent (husband Stephen Patrick Sargent) of Houston, TX; daughter Christin Denise Green (husband Christopher Alan Green) of Fort Worth, Texas; daughter Catherine Michelle Fletcher (fiancé Laurel Felton Brown) of Thompson, Connecticut; and one beautiful granddaughter, Cora June Sargent of Houston, TX.
