Richard McKeon Obituary

Richard McKeon passed away peacefully on February 6,2022, at the age of 92. Richard was a loving husband, a caring father, and, above all else, a gentleman, a scholar, and a good judge of bird dogs.

Richard was born on November 5, 1929, in Ossining, New York, the youngest son of Edna and Robert McKeon. Prodigious student, Richard graduated early from High School and began college at Ripon in Wisconsin. He enlisted in the Air National Guard and was called to active duty on April 7, 1952, leaving Ripon College and taking his new bride, Shirley Ann Tillotson, to Pepperrell Air Force Base in Newfoundland, Canada. Richard served his country as an Air Defense Specialist and an assistant to the Base Chaplin.

His civilian life brought him back to Ossining, where he joined with his brother Robert Jr., to helm Ossining Sash and Door, a successful building supply and home improvement business. Using his expertise in the building supply industry, Richard struck out on his own in the late 70’s to build many homes throughout Westchester and Putnam. His honesty and strong work ethic brought him many opportunities, leading to his early retirement in 1980. He a collegiate bridge champion, he brought his love of the game to the community as a teaching bridge master in Stuart. Shirley was the love of Richard’s life, and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June 2021. All who knew Richard will remember his warm words and gentile smile.

He is survived by his loving wife Shirley, Son Rev. Richard R. McKeon Jr. (Tim Lewis) Son Gregory H. McKeon (Marie-Louise) Grandson, Gregory Richard McKeon. He also is survived by his brothers’ children. Diana Charkalis (Warren) Pamela Noggle (Bruce). He is predeceased by his three brothers, Robert Jr., Warren and Bruce McKeon.
