Robert Williams Forschler, Sr., formerly of Norwich, died peacefully on January 7, 2021 at The Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, New York. Robert was born June 4, 1931 in Norwich, son of the late Walter U. Forschler and Mary Elizabeth Williams Forschler. He was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and attended Mitchell College.
He is survived by his former wife: Priscilla Forschler, Bozrah, CT and three children: Kathryn A. Forschler of Bozrah, CT, Stephen N. Forschler (Beth) of Clinton Corners, NY, and Robert W. Forschler, Jr. of Griswold, CT; two grandchildren, Emily G. Hahn (Matthew) of Silverdale, PA and Nathan J. Forschler (Anna) of Buffalo, NY and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Douglas Hoyt (Michelle) of Ledyard, Connecticut, the son of Dee Michaels, his longtime companion who predeceased him.
Bob had a keen interest in the Boy Scouts of America. He spent many years as a leader for Troop 12 in Norwich, Connecticut. He was instrumental in the initial development stages of June Norcross Webster Scout Reservation in Ashford, Connecticut, and spent many years as a leader at Camp Wakenah in Salem, Connecticut. He was also involved in the founding of the Gardner Lake Authority. Bob was employed in various capacities over the years including a sales position at WICH radio in Norwich, as an associate for Jewett City Savings Bank in Jewett City, Connecticut, and service manager for Holmgren Subaru in Norwich. Most recently, he worked in a security capacity for the Waterford Speed Bowl.
The family is grateful for the excellent, compassionate care he received from the entire staff at The Baptist Home and especially grateful for the love and care of his daughter-in-law, Beth M. Forschler of Clinton Corners.
There are no calling hours and the burial will be held privately at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich, CT.
