Rhinebeck – Charles Robert Jochum, always known as Bob, 69, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away unexpectedly on February 26, 2024 in Waterford, NY.
Born on December 29, 1954, he was the son of Charles Gerard and Beatrice (Merrihew) Jochum.
Bob was born and raised in Rhinebeck. After graduating from Rhinebeck High School, he became a General Contractor specializing in Masonry. Bob was truly proud of the work he did and keeping his business in the local community he loved.
On September 24, 1977 at the Good Shepherd Church, he married the love of his life Susan Michel. The two had gone to Rhinebeck schools together, and shortly after graduating they tied the knot. They spent forty-seven years loving each other and creating the family that was Bob's greatest joy in life. His wife, children and grandchildren were the center of his world and he let everyone he met know that Papa was his most treasured title. Bob was proud of all his kids and grandkids, but especially proud of his son Jared for serving in the Marine Corp and his grandson Kobe’s future in the Coast Guard.
Bob was known as a hardworking, loyal, dependable and loving man. He was an incredibly patient teacher with a passion for knowledge. Bob was an avid reader, always had a joke ready to share, loved golf, card and board games and sharing good times with family and friends.
