Rhinebeck – Robert H. Nussbaum, 88, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Archcare at Ferncliff Nursing Home.
Born October 4, 1933 he was the son of the late Carl Nussbaum and Mary Alice (Helms) Nussbaum. A brother Carl Nussbaum also predeceased Robert.
Mr. Nusbaum served in the US Army and graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelors Degree in English Education. He taught English in Brooklyn and later at St. Christopher’s Catholic School in Red Hook. He also taught piano and organ at the Kingston Music Center. He founded the Kingston Institute of Music and later named it the Kingston Conservatory of Music. Robert also served as organist and choir director for many area churches. He also performed at numerous venues in the area and had played organ for the Soap Opera “the Secret Storm.”
Robert is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Anne (Bedell) Nussbaum of Rhinebeck; his sister-in-law Valerie Ann Ryan, and his nieces, Marilyn Van Fleet, and her husband Matthew, Alice Maestri, and her husband Aaron; and a nephew Carl Nussbaum, and his wife Kathy ; and several grand nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his cousins Joyce (Caliendo) Nussbaum, Janice (Browning) Nussbaum, and Cathy (Fabiano) Nussbaum.
Calling hours are Saturday, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
