Rhinebeck – Roger W. Heywood, 87, a resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on February 7, 2023 at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center.
Born December 20, 1935 on the Levi P. Morton Estate in Rhinecliff in the middle of a snowstorm, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Hamill) Heywood.
Roger graduated from Rhinebeck High School and served in the US Airforce from 1957 – 1960. He was stationed at the Airforce Academy in Colorado Springs.
On October 13, 1962, he married Phyllis Hobson; together they have two daughters, Lori Ann Heywood of Rhinebeck and Sandra Lee Miller (Sean) of Clinton Corners. Mrs. Heywood survives at home.
Roger was co-owner of Heywood Bros., Inc. Excavating Contractors for 35 years.
He had a passion for antique cars. He owned and restored several over the years.
In addition to his wife and daughters, Roger is survived by his sister-in-law Anne Heywood; grandchildren Evan and Gavin DiMarco; nieces Sharon DiBenedetto; Kerry Hoeft; and nephews Donald, Robert, Joseph, Edwin and James Heywood as well as several other nieces, nephews and friends.
Roger was predeceased by his parents; his brothers Edwin, Joseph, and Harry Heywood and his sisters Clara Heywood and Marion Wery.
There are no calling hours.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
