Russell Walter Wager Jr, 55, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away at Advent Fish Memorial Hospital in Deltona, FL on Saturday, December 28, 2019 surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born in Rhinebeck, NY on April 21,1964 he is the son of Russell Walter Sr and the late Joyce Elizabeth (Post) Wager.
A Rhinebeck Central School class of 1982 graduate, Russell joined the United States Marine Corp in March 1983 and served honorable until March 1990 as a Field Radio Operator. His duties stations included Camp Lejeune, Camp Pendleton, Okinawa, as well participating on three US Navy sea tours with Marine Force detachment.
Upon his discharge Russell moved back to Rhinebeck where he started a family and welcomed his son Keenan Wager into the world. Russell was a loving and caring father to the end.
In 2013, Russell packed up and moved to Deltona, Fl where he resided for the past six years with his fiancé Patt Hughes from Red Hook, NY. He was Executive Director of maintenance at an assisted living complex in Deltona. He enjoyed his new Florida life and hosting friends at his pool home. His love for the golf channel & the game of golf took him out with his friends to enjoy a round on each Saturday.
Russell’s energy and ability to make everyone around him laugh was a blessing to be a part of. His kind, caring and devoted disposition served as an example to many.
Russell is survived by his son Keenan, father Russ Sr, step-mom Claudia, sister Debbie and brother Kevin along with several Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday, January 3rd from 4-6pm at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home 51 West Market St Rhinebeck, NY.
Funeral Services will be conducted by the American Legion Post #429 at 6pm.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
