Shirley Burroughs, born Shirley Ann Green on March 25, 1937, in east Texas, was a beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother.
Shirley excelled in her studies, graduating from Texas Women’s University in 1959. She married the love of her life, Robert Burroughs, in 1960, and raised their three daughters, Claire, Laura, and Julie while she lived in Michigan and New York. She earned her master’s degree at Wayne State University in Detroit in 1969 while working as a high school teacher. Wherever she lived, she made lifelong friendships. Her warmth and congeniality, intelligence, and work ethic, fed her success as a real estate broker and business owner. She settled in her favorite place, Rhinebeck, NY, in 1977, where she lived until she died on May 13, 2022.
She is survived by her beloved husband, her three children, two sons-in-laws, her sister, two sisters-in law, two brothers-in-law, 8 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father, one sister, one brother-in-law, one grandson, and one niece.
Friends and family may call Monday, May 16th, 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. A time of remembrance and celebration will begin at 2:00 PM.
