Sobhi Mohammad Hammoud

Sobhi Mohammad Hammoud, 75, of Rhinebeck, New York, succumbed to a hard-fought battle with cancer on December 9, 2018.  

Sobhi is survived by his wife Soubhieh of 50 years, sons Ali (Jennifer) Hammoud and Daniel Hammoud, daughters Farah (Hussam) Hariri and Carolina (Daniel) Heflin, grandchildren Gabriel and Jed Hammoud, Ian Hariri, and Isabella, Alexander, and Patrick Heflin, sisters Almaza Mustafa and Dallal Hammoud, and many nieces and nephews and extended family. 

Sobhi was a charismatic, witty, and complex man. He loved to connect with people over coffee and food.  He loved to cook and share/exchange stories or engage in lively debates at the dinner table or on his front porch.  There are so many fond memories we will hold onto of he and his wife hosting friends and family or just sharing a meal and conversations with us at the dinner table.   The kitchen is where he shined and the dinner table is where he came alive.    

A special thank you to his caring physicians, Dr. Sharagrim Kemp, Dr. Paul Donovan, Dr. Joseph Christiana, and the nurses and healthcare teams in both the HealthAlliance and Northern Dutchess Hospitals.   

Also, our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude towards Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home and Rhinebeck Cemetery for being very accommodating and understanding during this difficult time.  

A memorial service will be from 12:00 until 1:30 PM at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home on Sunday, December 16.  In keeping with the Islamic faith, Sobhi was laid to rest on Monday, December 10th.
