Steven Plotnick Obituary

Rhinebeck – Steven R. Plotnick, 74, of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully at the Baptist Home on September 16, 2021.

Born in the Bronx, NY on June 14, 1947, he was the son of the late Morris and Sally (Ortman) Plotnick.

Steve received a BA in History and then attended a specialist X-Ray School to became an X-Ray Technician. He left the Bronx and settled in Rhinebeck, where he worked for Northern Dutchess Hospital for 28 years.

In 1983, he went to the Appalachian Trail Conference at SUNY New Paltz where he met Alice Lieberman. The two married in Allentown, PA on November 3, 1984 and Alice relocated to Rhinebeck with him. Mrs. Plotnick survives at home.

Steve loved nature. He was a real environmentalist at heart and would give you the shirt off of his back. He planted mammoth sunflowers and tended a beautiful garden in front of his home with Alice. He hiked several parts of the Appalachian Trail and was fascinated by what he saw from snakes on the ground to the stars in the sky, especially to the planets and Saturn’s Rings. He was a member of the MidHudson Astronomers Club and the Environmental Advisory Council in Rhinebeck.

He enjoyed Upstate films in Rhinebeck, trying new restaurants in the area, and visiting Friendly’s Ice cream while they were still open in Kingston.

In addition to his wife Alice, Steve is survived by a sister Ellen Keizer (Jeff), many nieces, nephews, and several cousins as well as Alice’s family.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Fred Plotnick.

There are no calling hours.

A Graveside Service will be held in the Natural Section of the Rhinebeck Cemetery, 3 Mill Rd., on Monday September 20th at 2PM.
