Stuart Queen Sr. Obituary

Stuart Robert Queen, Sr., 92, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Stuart lived in Granville, NY for several years after moving from Rhinecliff where he was a longtime resident.

Born November 24, 1931 in Tivoli, NY, he was the son of Frederick E. and Gertrude May (Staggers) Queen.

He was a 1950 graduate of Rhinebeck High School. He enlisted in the Navy, spending four years on the destroyer, USS Bradford-DD 545, and taking part in the Korean War. After the Navy, Stuart worked several jobs, including as a Rhinebeck Village Police Officer.

He attended college at the School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri, before taking a job in the engineering department at the State of New York Dept. of Transportation, where he worked for 38 years.

He was a life member of the Rhinecliff Fire Department, member of the Rhinecliff Rescue Squad, Past Grange Master, member of the American Legion Montgomery Post #429, member of the Adirondack Chapter #60 Korean War Veterans, a member of the Rhinebeck United

Methodist Church and later a member of the Hartford United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary Ellen in 2017, his son Stuart Queen, Jr. in 2001, and his brothers Montgomery, William, and Richard, as well as half-brothers George and Lawrence.

Stuart is survived by his daughters, Sheri (Donald) Flemming of Hershey, PA, and Jan (Vince) Doolittle of Granville, NY; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, David, and half- sisters Hazel, Geraldine, Cecelia, and Karen.

Public calling hours are on Sunday, February 18 from 3:00-5:00 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St, Rhinebeck. Members of the Rhinecliff Fire Co. will conduct services at 4:00 PM, and members of the Montgomery Post #429 at 4:30 PM.

Funeral Services are Monday, February 19, at 10:30 AM, at the Rhinebeck United Methodist Church, 83 E Market St, Rhinebeck. Rev. Nan Ernst and Rev. Carol Finke will officiate.

Interment with Military Honors will follow at the Rhinebeck Cemetery, with a reception to follow at the Rhinecliff Fire Department, Shatzell Ave, Rhinecliff.
