Veronica Margaret Burud

Red Hook -  Veronica Margaret Crilly Burud, a 63 year resident of the Red Hook/ Rhinebeck area, passed away peacefully at Northern Dutchess Hospital on April 30, 2022, one month short of her 98th  birthday.

Veronica Margaret Crilly was born in Alden Iowa on June 1, 1924 to Patrick and Rose (McGuire) Crilly.

Veronica married Francis Burud from Big Falls, MN on November 29, 1947 at Church of St Peter in Peoria, IL. Veronica and Frank were married for 55 years. Frank predeceased her in May of 2002.

Veronica is survived by her seven children and their spouses: Larry and Connie Burud (NY), Joe and Terri Burud (AZ), Marsha Burud and Joe Baffoni (RI), Nancy Burud and Jim Williams (MA), Scott and Margaret Burud (NY), Stephen and Susan Burud (FL), and Daniel and Natalia Burud (NC).

Veronica was the proud grandmother of 24 grandchildren, and she delighted in the arrival of 19 great grandchildren. 

Beloved by her husband and children, she devoted her life to her family and lovingly welcomed all her sons and daughters in law into the fold. Her children have the fondest memories of growing up in a loving family in Forest Park. Veronica’s cookies, brownies and especially her ice cream roll were legendary. She was a kind and generous friend to those who knew her. She especially enjoyed a lifelong friendship with Therese Mahoney and Jane Campo. 

Veronica was a devout Catholic and in her younger years, volunteered in the Rosary Altar Society at St. Christopher Parish, Red Hook.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Reverend Jeffrey Maurer at 11 o’clock at St. Christopher Church in Red Hook, NY on Friday, May 6, 2022. There are no calling hours.
