Rhinebeck – Violet Alice Perkins, 89, passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, NY.
Violet has been an area resident for 22 years, having moved here from Illinois to stay with her daughter. She was an executive secretary for a publishing company while her husband served in the merchant marines at the end of WW2 and then served on the front lines in the army during the Korean War. After the wars she was a bookkeeper for her husbands Standard Station in Wheeling, IL. Violet also
worked as a sales clerk at Weiboldts in Mt. Prospect, IL.
Violet helped many people. Violet was secretary of the Lioness Club for several years. Her husband received many awards for his service including the Governors award. Violet provided many hours of secretarial, cooking, baking her famous cookies and biscuits in support of her husbands service goals.
When Violet moved to New York, she became a member of the Rhinebeck Senior Center. She was proud of the many years of volunteer work her grandson Kevin provided for the center.
Born on April 17, 1929 in Evanston, IL she was the daughter of Thurston and Esther Carlson who immigrated from Sweden through Ellis Island.
Her husband Keith Eugene Perkins passed away on September third, 1994.
Violet is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Mike Murray of Clinton Corners; and her grandson Kevin Murray.
A memorial gathering will be Sunday, December 9 2018 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck NY.
Memorial donations may be made to your local animal shelter. Violet loved cats and would be extremely honored if anyone could adopt a cat in her memory.
