Rhinebeck, NY - Theresa D. Cox, 54, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017, at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY, after a period of declining health due to Down’s syndrome

Theresa was born May 22, 1963 in Poughkeepsie, NY, to Theodore & Mary Cox. She lived in Rhinebeck with a short time spent in Cary, North Carolina, where she graduated from school.

Theresa moved to a group home in 2005 in Valatie, NY where she attended a day program and enjoyed the company of many loving caregivers during her 12 years there.   Theresa liked music, dancing and board games a lot. She reserved the word "love" for humans. She had a number of favorite TV shows.  She played the piano and guitar and enjoyed entertaining her family at Christmas performing and participating in the family traditional Christmas concert.

Theresa overcame many obstacles and led a rich life full of love, friendship and humor.  Theresa loved her life and greatly enjoyed the many people who made her life better.  Cats and dogs were very special to her, whether her own, her sister's or a cat she had as a child.  Theresa taught us how to enjoy birthdays and holidays. Theresa was dearly loved by her family, friends and caregivers.  She had a gentle personality and a beautiful smile.

She is survived by her mother Mary Cox; three sisters, Jean Labanowski, and her husband Brian of Scarborough, ME; Mary "Kathy" Marshall, and her husband David of York, ME; Susan Cox, and her husband Robert Newshutz of Rochester, MN; and six nieces and nephews, Christopher and Emily Marshall, Tamara and Julia Labanowski, William and Henry Newshutz; seven cousins: Nancy Briggs, Patrick Briggs, Thomas Briggs,  John R.
